2-1-Q Newsletter: Fresh Ideas on Wednesday

Each Wednesday, we are going to look at 2 short ideas from me, 1 quote from others, and a question to consider.

Sent by Jarrod Hood, February 5th, 2025

2 IDEAS FROM ME:

1. "Lets look at two different ways of thinking about anxiety: eustress and distress. Eustress is the anxiety that keeps the world moving. It gets us up in the morning. Gets us to go to school, work. Makes sure we are continuing to move forward in life in a positive direction. It gets us out the door!  without this anxiety, no one would do anything. we would cease any motivation, any direction.

Distress is anxiety that stops you from meeting your purpose, your potential. Distress is anxiety that is obstacle forming, habit reinforcing. The goal is to work and mange distress. Distress stops capable people of doing things that are POSSIBLE and DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE for them to do."

2.

Anxiety in children can have many causes. It can be caused by a traumatic experience, a difficult life event, or even genetics. It can also be caused by a combination of these factors. Symptoms of anxiety can include physical symptoms like headaches, stomachaches, and difficulty sleeping, as well as emotional symptoms like fear, worry, and irritability. It’s important to recognize these symptoms and understand their causes in order to help children manage their anxiety.

 1 QUOTE FROM OTHERS:

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.” — Lou Holtz

1 QUESTION TO CONSIDER:

Am I using my anxiety as a signal to change something in my life, or am I simply reacting to fear?

I am giving all CURRENT and PAST clients my course, Rethinking Anxiety, for free. Please respond to this email if you would like a copy. It is full of specific guidance, tips, and coaching around managing anxiety as a parent and helping coach your anxious child.
