2-1-Q Newsletter: Fresh Ideas every Wednesday

Each Wednesday, we are going to look at 2 short ideas from me, 1 quote from others, and a question to consider.

PARENT HACK IDEA:

This idea came to me from a brilliant Mom tired of the daily screen time battles.

Tired of parental controls being thwarted, or not being able to shut off apps completely? Here is a phone hack that can help with screen time problems (for Apple iPhones).

Go into settings, scroll down into Accessibility.

On the next screen scroll down to Assistive Access. It's toward the bottom.

Once in there you click on manage apps. Then you can move what apps you want around. You can add Phone and Messages.

You have to set up the access with a passcode. Use the last 4 digits of something that cannot be guessed.

After you have moved all of the apps around, you can click on calls and messages and allow access to whichever contacts you want.

Then you have a “dumb” phone or "granny" phone with your already purchased iPhone.

Good behavior allows you to get apps and contacts back on the phone. This can also be a way to give a child a phone where you may not be ready to give them full access just yet. Bonus- you can still use the phone settings for Find My features, etc. "

2.

"Discipline can be boiled down to helping your children see that doing the right thing generally leads to better outcomes in their lives."

 1 QUOTE FROM OTHERS:

“ Early feedback is usually better than late criticism. Delaying the conversation or stringing someone along with indirect feedback won't make them feel better once the real issue is finally addressed. Nobody likes getting bad news, but everyone appreciates clarity.”

James Clear, discussing timeliness in delivering bad news.

1 QUESTION TO CONSIDER:

Do you need to find better ways to manage screen dependency in your home?
